They carry on the traditions of their founders by focusing their charitable efforts in three areas within the City of New York: education, Irish Arts & Culture, and, in keeping with their origins, legal immigration services. The Society holds several events throughout the year for the purposes of charitable fundraising and social engagement amongst their membership.

Featured in our restaurant are pieces from a dinner celebration that took place in Delmonicos restaurant in New York City on St Patricks' Day 1903. The musical programme for the event with Bayne's Orchestra included:

Miss Clara Winter - Harpist

Mr John J. Cassidy - Barytone

Mr Geo. W. Mitchell - Tenor

Mr Chas J. Dunne - Accompanist

Delmonico's was operated by the Delmonico family at 56 Beaver Street in Lower Manhattan, and had a reputation as one of the nation's top fine dining establishments. Among the original to use the Delmonico's name, this restaurant was birthplace of the widely imitated Delmonico steak, and is credited with being one of the first American restaurants to allow patrons to order from a menu à la carte, as opposed to table d'hôte. It is also said to be the first to employ a separate wine list.

Sea Swimming For The Mind Body and Soul

It’s that time of year again when resolutions are made or better intentions are sought and for many, Sea Swimming is the new jogging. For centuries, people have been coming to the coast to feel the healing effects of cold seawater and the fresh sea air.

Seawater has been used for centuries as a way of promoting health and for cosmetic reasons - indeed the term 'thalassotherapy’ is from the Greek word “thalassa,” meaning sea or ocean.

Now, in 2022 sea swimming’s popularity is continually growing throughout Ireland and we are lucky enough to have a beautiful, safe pier and beach on our doorstep for everyone to enjoy. Whatever the season, this could be the perfect time to take the plunge and restore your body and mind.

Seawater contains a variety of minerals that help beautify the skin including magnesium, sodium, sulphate, calcium and chloride. Skin is moisturised by the magnesium rich seawater and it's anti inflammatory properties can help reduce common skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema.

Seawater supports the healing of many common ailments such as arthritis, asthma and bronchitis. The naturally calming effects of sea swimming helps to release aches and pains, relieves stress and as you are also outdoors it is a great way of getting some extra vitamin D into your system!

Sea swimming supports mindfulness and you are sure to sleep more soundly after a dip in the sea. Whether it is the briefest of dips or jumping right off the pier at Cahore, immersing your body in the fresh sea water is sure to invigorate. The parasympathtic system of the brain that can trigger the release of dopamine and seratonin is stimulated by sea swimming thus improving ones' mood - who doesn't want that?!

Sea Swimming is of course, great for circulation and restores depleted micro-elements in our bodies as we swim. The cold water boosts white cell production which in turn fights off infection. Even being by the sea for a bracing walk, inhaling the natural minerals and elements will do your mind and body a world of good. Just ask any of the regular sea swimmers who brave the cold waters all year round such as our brave Sammie or Aoghan!

Cahore visitors who take a sea-dip for the first time often become hooked on the cold-water buzz and the beauty of Cahore overlooking the Irish sea and they soon become not only familiar faces but loyal customers and indeed friends!

See you in the sea!
